Instead of the classic list of the ten most beautiful places, we suggest ten themes with some of our favourite ideas.

So sit back, relax and choose your next stop to visit in Trentino! Ready to leave with us?

1: CULTURAL THEME

We all have an internet connection thanks to which we can have everything at our fingertips, in real time and in no time at all. But what live museums offer is absolutely indescribable! The scent of antiquity, the eyes that light up when looking at a room carved with more or less real events, only to close them and imagine those scenes come to life, to touch with your own hands that antiquity that seems so far away. There are various museums in Trentino that take us on a fascinating journey through the past, the present and the future! Here is what to see in Trentino.

Let's start in Rovereto, a stone's throw from the Ostello, where we immediately find the unmissable Mart with its peculiar glass and steel dome! Opened in 2002, it boasts more than 20,000 works including paintings, drawings, engravings and sculptures and 150 years of art history.

If, on the other hand, it is science and the environment that attract your interest, then head to Trento, only 10 minutes by train from Rovereto, where you will discover the Muse. Everything seems to defy gravity and look around, the nature will surely leave you speechless!

Also in this beautiful town you will find one of the most important monumental complexes, the Castello del Buonconsiglio, where you will find exciting collections that bear witness to the history of the beautiful Trentino!

For our dear guests an extra surprise: the Trentino Guest Card, which gives you free access to transport throughout Trentino!

2: NATURE THEME

A trip to the lake is as gentle as its waters. Between pure air, green woods and escape from the hectic pace of the city, spending a few days relaxing can only be good for your health. The lakes of our Trentino region are a real panacea for the whole family, true paradises in which to bathe, stroll and discover the crystal-clear waters that make us dream from the first glance. These are real pearls, creating a real turquoise magic! We have chosen the 3 that impressed us most: here is what to see in Trentino!

Lake Tenno is a picturesque alpine lake, where the contrast of colours will make you feel like you are inside an expressionist painting! Moreover, afterwards you can boast that you have found Peter Pan's island! So an indescribable magic in words that will captivate you with timeless beauty.

If, on the other hand, you prefer a rainbow of colours, Lake Tovel is the one for you! The reflection of the sky and the sand of the seabed merge to create a breathtaking spectacle. All that remains for you to do is to let yourself be carried away on a fantastic tour of the lake and follow its magnificent paths. There is a beautiful legend about why the waters of Lake Tovel turned red!

Lake Erdemolo: an indescribable example of unspoilt nature in an absolutely romantic setting! It is a true heart-shaped lake, an oasis capable of leaving you speechless, thanks to its simplicity and tranquillity!

3: SPIRITUAL THEME

Trentino preserves a spirituality rooted in a millenary past. The proposed theme will take you on a journey through sacredness, art and history. There are, in fact, numerous churches, sanctuaries and hermitages among the most beautiful in Italy, capable of bestowing an inner peace indescribable in words. We have chosen for you the 3 most picturesque and evocative among the things to see in Trentino.

The Hermitage of San Colombano is a real swallow's nest suspended 120 metres above sea level. Imagine a gem set in the rock: San Colombano and its legend of the dragon will leave you breathless!

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a place of silence and ancient stories, we recommend the rock path to the San Romedio Sanctuary. Perched on a rocky spur, it tells the story of the San Romedio bear. To this day, a majestic bear lives in a large enclosure at the base of the sanctuary.

Santa Maria della Corona, on the southern border of Trentino, is an impressive sanctuary built on a vertical cliff on the Monte Baldo range. The present church was built in 1530 and only became a sanctuary in 1625, when the Knights of Malta had the main building rebuilt. It can be reached with a two-hour walk from Brentino Belluno (province of Verona), following a path through the forest with over 1,500 steps.

4: CASTLES THEME

Dream or wake? Do you want to live a dream inside fairytale atmospheres, do you want to get lost in the alleys of picturesque medieval villages or do you want to feel like a king and queen for a day? Then this is the right theme for you! We suggest 3 of our favourite fortresses, surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery, so different from each other and so beautiful, they tell distant stories, on the border between reality and fantasy, full of war, love intrigues and duels.

The Castle of Avio, is like a beacon for the traveller arriving from Verona, but you will be surprised once you reach the top of the central keep: a breathtaking panorama over the entire valley. It is a majestic circuit of towers and crenellated walls designed for the strategic control of the valley. But that's not all, it is also a marvellous treasure chest of a luxuriant garden!

Continuing our journey towards the city of Trento, Castel Beseno appears as a small citadel perched on the rock. Fascinating from afar, but especially when you step inside its walls. You will feel enveloped by amagical atmosphere with the flavour of ancient mediaeval legends: perhaps it is because of the legends that claim it is still home to fantastic presences!

If, on the other hand, you are more attracted by ancient splendour and princely festivities ,Thun Castle will satisfy your desires. In fact, it is an ancient and rare princely residence that still retains much of its original furnishings. A castle worthy of being the protagonist of the best fairy tales, it stands on a hill above the small village of Vigo di Ton, immersed in the apple orchards of Val di Non.

Now all you have to do is breathe deeply, enjoying the clean air and feeling free and light, free of worries!

5: GREAT WAR THEME

"Being huddled in the trenches is the only thing, because putting your head out means dying," says Ermanno Olmi in 'Torneranno i prati', which recounts in an extremely documented and realistic way that war made up of assaults on the trenches and endless walks to reach them. Now let us look together at some routes and ways to remember that period.

The Forra del Lupo (Gorge of the Wolf ) is a route carved out between high rock walls and allows you to walk along long stretches of trenches and observe loopholes and observatories overlooking the Terragnolo valley. It is truly unforgettable, both for its breathtaking landscape and its history, capable of remaining etched forever in our memory. It is in fact a spectacular itinerary, along which there are panels displaying historical photos that allow us to compare the present landscape with that of a hundred years ago!

It is difficult to describe the war in words, so sometimes there is nothing left to do but visit places that give us a better understanding of that dark period in history. The Italian War History Museum in Rovereto is a fantastic example! It is housed inside the Rovereto Castle and contains various relics from the First World War.

The Ossuary of Castel Dante is a monumental building built on a hill so that it can be seen all over Vallagarina. With more than 20,000 corpses of Italian, Austrian, Czechoslovakian and Hungarian soldiers, known and unknown, protagonists of that bloody conflict, watched over and lulled every night by the tolling of the famous Maria Dolores Bell, a monument with a strong symbolic character.

"Humanity must put an end to war or war will put an end to humanity," said Kennedy.

By now, many of you know the 'symbol' fruit of our territory: the apple. Let's try making apple strudel together! Once it's in the oven, close your eyes and let the scent of this wonderful dessert inebriate you: now Trentino is right there with you!

Again with apples you can make many other dishes, for example the tasty Frittelle di mele Trentine: appreciated by everyone! They require few ingredients, but are able to make you dance from joy and goodness!

9: FANTASY

Here we are lovers of fairy tales and journeys of the mind! Did you know that our Alpine valleys in times long past were populated by majestic dragons?

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a dragon living in the waters of Lake Nambino who fed on seaweed and fish, until one day he decided to come out into the open, devouring two sheep, a calf and the shepherd. The news spread and two hunters came forward to avenge the killing and... who knows if they succeeded or if they became friends, you are curious to find out!

There is another famous dragon, this time however made of wood and with a message of hope and rebirth. Do you know the Vaia Dragon? Born out of the Vaia Storm thanks to the idea of artist Marco Martalar, who says "everything can take on new life and always be in transformation".

If, on the other hand, you want to find traces of the dragons of Latemar, the Dragon Forest is the walk for you, a magical path enhanced by the presentation of the Drache dragonologist's house-workshop and, above all, by the installations and attractions, such as the large dragon eggs. You can also have fun solving funny riddles!

So, dear dreamers, all you have to do is fasten your seatbelts and accompany us on this magnificent and extraordinary journey into a wonderful fairytale!
