EMERALD LAKE (Lago Smeraldo) AND RIO SASS IN VAL DI NON
Are you looking for the magic of emerald color reflected between water and sky? Emerald Lake rewards your expectations in all seasons of the year!
It’s in Fondo, in Val di Non, at about 1000 meters above sea level. The alpine lake, recently made by damming the Rio Fondo, has an extension of about 10 thousand square meters.
Emerald Lake and Rio Sass can be easily reached by car and are well served by car parks near the Fondo ice rink. Alternatively, you can park near the town of Fondo and cross the evocative Valle dei Molini, where you can visit the recently renovated mill and walk along the ravine promenade.
The narrow gorge winds its way through bridges, waterfalls and paths for about 300 meters. Let yourself be amazed by the surrounding landscape. There will be pleasant surprises… calcareous concretions, depressions carved by wind and water, and fossil ammonites.
At first, the path becomes a wide steel walkway to help you climb the steepest and most inaccessible part, until it suddenly comes out on the beautiful Emerald Lake.
