Tenno Lake

Are you looking for the magic of turquoise reflected between water and sky?

Tenno Lake will reward your expectations in all seasons of the year!

Where it is

It’s a picturesque alpine lake at about 570 meters above sea level, not far from Riva del Garda and about half an hour’s drive from Rovereto. It’s in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere of the Ledrensi and Judicaria Alps. Even on less beautiful days, the contrast of colors seems to have come out of an expressionist painter’s palette. The aquamarine that turns turquoise is striking. It gives its best especially in the autumn and spring months when the contrast between the turquoise set in the dark green of the surrounding woods leaves you breathless.

The lake was formed following a landslide that blocked the course of its stream. It can only be reached by walking down an easy stone staircase of about 120 steps. Once on the lake and heading to your right, there’s a small island which can be reached on foot.

A walk of about half an hour will take you to the village of Canale di Tenno, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Have you always wondered where to find Peter Pan’s island? Lake Tenno is the answer at certain times of the year. In the months characterized by least rainfall, a second tiny island emerges in south of part of the lake. The locals call it “86 Island” but we’ll leave it up to you to find out the reason.

The stream coming from the lake forms the torrent which gives life to the Varone Waterfalls, one of the most evocative attractions of the Alto Garda area of Trento province. There’s a nice walk on bridges, stairs, paths and tunnels dug by the water in the rock of the mountain.
