San Colombano Lake

This beautiful lake, behind the dam on the Leno River, is a few kilometers from Rovereto in a mountain gorge. Its colors, from midnight blue to emerald green, depending on interaction with the sky and are something truly wonderful. It’s easily accessible but few know its beauty.

The easiest path starts from just above the beautiful San Colombano Hermitage, a jeweled nest in the rock that you should visit. This pearl overlooking river is often mentioned as one of the most beautiful hermitages, because it resembles a swallow’s nest suspended 120 meters high on a cliff face. Unmissable!

If you’re interested in learning more, here you will find how to get there, where to park, and curiosities about the legend of Saint Colombano’s fight with the dragon:

Some paths allow you to skirt the entire lake and pass next to the dam of the same name. Rainbow trout are introduced into the waters by the local fishing association, and there are also brown trout, carp and tench. In the pleasant walk along the lake, it’s easy to see the fish in the most transparent points. Have you ever heard before about San Colombano Lake?
